Devotional – Romans 8:35-39

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:

“For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”

37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:35-39

These verses ask the question, what can separate us from the love of Jesus Christ?  In short?  Nothing!  That love is the only true constant in our lives.  He loved us before we were a twinkle in our father’s eye, and well before we loved or even knew who He was.

Psalm 44 tells a story of love and commitment to the Lord through great trials, even to the point of slaughter, even as He positions us throughout our lives for His purpose.  Jesus set the standard we must follow, allowing nothing to separate our love from Him is the challenge before us, that we will continue to fail at.

But God, in His steadfast grace, mercy, and love which we decidedly do not deserve, calls upon us to keep trying.  Praise the Lord!
