In my Facebook feed today, I saw a post from 2 years ago today – I’d began attending a new Church, River Rocks over in Dawsonville, GA. I never could have foreseen where the good Lord would take me after I stepped through those doors for the first time. I managed to dig up the conversation I had with a friend the first night I attended – August 31st, 2022.
ME:
I read through https://carm.org/about-the-church/what-things-should-we-look-for-in-a-church/ – found two dings against the church i’ve been attending right off the top
When i’m back down in Georgia i’ll need to do some more research and see if i can find something closer to Calvary Chapel.
RR:
Did you ever try any of the Calvary Chapel there?
ME:
Are they all the same organization?
Man I got all excited, went to Calvary Chapel Gainesville page and saw Acts 2:42… then realized it was Gainesville, FL
This one – https://riverrockschurch.com/ – right up the road pretty much
10 minutes from my house, and there’s a 6:30pm service tonight
RR:
River Rocks is listed on the calvarycca.org page which is good
Looks Like they also have a Saturday Men’s Bible study
Every other Saturday and includes breakfast
ME:
Yea my eyes opened wide when i saw the men’s bible study
RR:
8 to 930
ME:
That’s something i was specifically looking for
RR:
Absolutely.
Oh wow! They have a men’s event coming up on Sept 10th. Scripture and Skeet
Sounds fun
I wanna go
ME:
Lol I’ll be driving back down that day… boooo
RR:
They also have a men’s retreat coming up in october
Listening to one of his recent messages. He’s good
Younger guy
ME:
If I wasn’t so swamped with work I’d be digging in more, hopefully all my after-work work gets done quickly enough that I can go to the 6:30 service and see it in person
RR:
Anybody show up to the 630? Looked pretty empty in your pic
ME:
That was before it began, maybe 20-30 folks
RR:
Perfect!
People welcoming?
ME:
It felt like the first time I walked into grace tbh
RR:
Very cool
What book are they in for wednesdays?
ME:
Ruth 3 tonight, but that also lead to Leviticus, Numbers, Genesis
I wasn’t familiar at all with that book until tonight
RR:
Very cool. That’s one of the cool things about calvary s is that you know what to be reading for next week.
Pastor seemed pretty legit with the message I watched. Not boring and not over the top
Top
ME:
Pastor was a straight shooter, had a good conversation, met a few other people who introduced themselves, good music, a ton of prayer. Shared how I got there and why when they all began sharing how God was moving in their lives and those around them. I didn’t hesitate at all when it came to participating.
RR:
Woah…..that’s cool. Unlike the old you
ME:
Yeah seriously lol
And I like their mission statement or whatever it is called… “just one more saved”
I’m paraphrasing, but it’s very humble
RR:
Definitely. Their mission statement about being a discipling church is awesome too
ME:
Yup so far it’s firing on all cylinders
In the time since I first walked through those doors, I’ve quit smoking and vaping, near 2 years now. I’ve quit drinking, 8 months since my last. I got married (near 4 months), and now I’m teaching. Praise the Lord for this opportunity to serve Him. I knew this church was home when the introvert I am shared openly that very first Wednesday night service.

I can’t wait (but I will) to see what the good Lord has in store! God bless!
